This is a continuation of my interview with astrologer Barry Cowger as we discuss the purpose of the Midheaven (MC) in an astrological chart, as well as how each of the 12 signs expresses itself at the MC. This article addresses the Pisces Midheaven.
Janet: Well, Barry, here we are at the last Sign of the Midheaven series: Pisces. I want to take a moment to thank you for sharing your time and wisdom with my readers. The Midheaven series has been quite fascinating!
So, back to the Pisces Midheaven. How does this placement express itself in a person's natal chart?
Barry: We all have ideals and our dreams and what we want to do in this world while we are here. Pisces Midheaven people are those of us who are here to express, exemplify or voice our experience of eternity as it changes our perceptions of who we think we are.
For example, does your career (or the one you pine for) lead you to think about God/dess and the ground from which you and all other things have originated? Have you had an experience that tells you, without doubt, that separateness is an illusion--the result of an ego believing certain things about so-called “reality?” Do you believe that all people are the essentially same and want the same things? What are the roots of pain, suffering and misunderstanding? Pisces MC people are meant to delve into such things. And when they come up with what they believe to be the essence of something, or an experience of Spirit, how will they express that? Or will they? History is littered with those of us who, for some reasons, either did not follow our dreams and ideals, or were freaked out by our experience of Spirit, or who are still lost in the labyrinth of their lives, drifting from one place to another looking for "X".
Now because Jupiter is the co-ruler of Pisces, the popular phrase is 'wandering'. You've probably seen the bumper sticker: "I'm not lost, I'm still wandering." Pisces Midheaven people can luck into their lives you might say--stumble into them and discover something wonderful (spirit at work on their lives, no doubt). Neptune also co-rules their MC and this can express itself as being lost and drifting forever. Sometimes I say to people with Pisces MC's that one way the clouds of your life will part is by being severely disillusioned. Now this can take its toll financially, emotionally, physically and spiritually. People become completely shot, deflated, disillusioned. This is a necessary process.
Then when the ego is a bit humbled, when the dissolving nature of their Pisces MC's work on them and wear that part of themselves that needed to be shown who they are not and what was not, then you have a mystical parting of the Red Sea of their consciousness: clarity like they have never experienced before! This is a wonderful event to see. I tell you, I've seen it and from that experience I know that Spirit exists and is the most powerful force in the known Universe. It's like seeing a car go into a car wash covered with the dirt of its delusions. And when it comes out the other end, it has been "purified.'" If you want to have an experience of someone who knows something, without a shred of doubt, this is such a person. It is miraculous.
So for all of you out there that have Pisces on your Midheaven, I would like to leave you with a final thought to ponder: it's not a question of “following your dreams” or “making something happen” that represents and expresses your ideals as much as it as allowing that which is already within you to come forth. It feels more like stepping out of your own way to allow what's already there in potential to express. So in one sense it's not about "doing." It's about coming to rest in a place that was always there, everywhere. It's just your job to find your way to that experience.
