Creating since the age of 5, Ron Boyer is a self-taught artist from Pennsylvania. He works in acrylics, woodburn, and polymer clay sculpture.
At age 21, he was commissioned to create a mural based on the movie Dances With Wolves. Painted in the dead of winter on a 2-car garage door--and taking 7 months to complete--this mural featured dozens of buffalo, horses, and Native American hunters, earning him a full-page story in the local paper.
Although Ron specialized in photo-realistic wildlife for most of his life, he has since branched out to mystical themes, space art, custom signs, plaques, polymer clay sculpture and Tarot boxes. He has created dozens of commissioned pieces over the last 15 years.
Tarot Themed Plaques and Boxes
To the left is The Hermit, Ron's custom woodburn Tarot "card" for his wife. He incorporated Janet's affinity for books, solitude, nature, tea/coffee, taking notes, and her beloved sun/moon/stars motif (the throw draped over the chair). The lamp on the desk is shaped like a lantern, a homage to the traditional depiction of The Hermit. (Click the plaque to see an enlarged version.)
This particular picture, unlike the other woodburns on the page, are from a direct scan. So until we get a picture of The Hermit, this will do. The final product will look more like the deer and the eagle featured on this page-- warmer and more subtle. Astro Plaques and Boxes
Both the Astro Plaques and Astro Boxes feature a customized representation of your Rising Sign (Ascendant), Sun Sign, and Moon Sign. While many are familiar with the Sun sign--which reflects the core of an individual--the Ascendant and Moon Signs are arguably just as important. Your Rising Sign is unique because it reflects the hour you were born and is the "face" you show to the world--your outer persona. The Moon sign reflects emotional traits and instincts. To the left is a woodburn Ron did for his wife, Janet. Her Sun Sign, Scorpio, is in the middle. Her Rising Sign, Aries, is at the top. Her Moon Sign, Aquarius, is on the bottom.
Because they are personalized, Astro Plaques or Boxes make great gifts! If you already know your Sun, Moon, and Ascendant, great! If not, no problem at all. As long as you know the date, time, and place of birth, we can generate a chart for you to quickly determine the appropriate Signs.
Currently, the custom Astro Plaques are available on 6 x 8 oval basswood plaques which have been kiln dried and finely sanded.. The three Signs can be placed either vertically (like above picture) or horizontally (side by side). You may either choose woodburn for your Signs or you may choose acrylic paint of any color. Ron paints freehand, so your personalized art will be one-of-a-kind.
In addition to Astro Plaques, Ron also creates custom boxes. These can be used for Tarot or oracle decks, runes, crystals, talismans, pendulums, pictures, and so on. They can even be used for wishes and dreams. The three Astrological Signs can be either woodburned or painted, just like the plaques.
Small boxes measure 61/8 x 2 x 4 5/8. The large boxes measure 8 1/4 x 3 1/4 x 5 3/8. The smaller box accommodates average sized decks like Doreen Virtue's oracle cards as well as Tarot decks such as Gilded, Revelations, Quest, and Archeon. The larger box accommodates larger decks like DruidCraft, Tarot of Dreams, and Isha Lerner's Inner Child Cards.
Ron will also woodburn a variety of motifs on your custom plaque or box including:
