“We will have great fun and share lots of laughter. And I’ll be there with a hug when you need to cry. Your friends will be welcome in our lives and in our home, where every person is valued and all feelings can be shared.” – From the book
Geared towards youngsters ages 3-8, Your Father Forever is a delightful book written by Travis Griffith and illustrated by Raquel Abreu. One morning, the author was awakened early by the persistent cries of his child, musing, “Well, I guess I’ll keep getting up like this for as long as you need me to.” This seemingly random thought led to the birth of this wonderful book.
In a social climate where father’s were often pressured as children to “be a man” (meaning act tough and don’t show tenderness) or even ridiculed for displays of kindness, it’s refreshing to see a book about a gentle, receptive father. My own husband displays the wonderful traits portrayed in this book, but sadly, many children don’t have the benefit of a nurturing, involved, and tender father.
Your Father Forever shows that men can, indeed, be nurturing parents who care just as much about their children’s emotional health as a mother could. Travis Griffith hopes to inspire children and fathers around the world to deepen their connections and commitments to one another and this book is an important bridge for doing so.
Gorgeously illustrated, this book brought me to tears as I read it. My son had the benefit of having his father be the first to read it to him. If you’re looking for a wonderful gift for a new father, this would be a wonderful investment in the future of our children—especially if the spirit of the book can be “caught” and applied.
